About Vaxtracker

About Vaxtracker

Established in 2011, Vaxtracker is a national online active vaccine safety surveillance system tool that enables people to report on how they or their child have responded to a recently administered vaccine.

Since 2014, Vaxtracker has partnered with AusVaxSafety, a national active vaccine safety surveillance system, to monitor the safety of vaccines in Australia.

With more than 4.5 million vaccine safety surveys collected Australia-wide across multiple vaccine programs, Vaxtracker is an integral part of the national vaccine safety surveillance system in Australia.

In The News

Vaxtracker is the proud winner of the 2023 Keeping People Healthy NSW Health Award!

We would like to thank our partner agencies for their ongoing support and everyone who has completed a vaccine safety survey through Vaxtracker.

AusVaxSafety

AusVaxSafety was established in 2014 as Australia’s national sentinel active vaccine safety surveillance system to monitor vaccine safety using participant reports of adverse events occurring within days of vaccination.

Vaccines monitored include those used in the National Immunisation Program, COVID-19, influenza and vaccines of special interest. Vaxtracker is one of three surveillance tools that deliver safety surveillance surveys to vaccine recipients for this surveillance program.

Data collected via Vaxtracker and other surveillance tools, are de-identified and sent to AusVaxSafety for analysis including signal detection. Analysis reports are shared with The Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, and the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), and key vaccine safety data are made available publicly.

How Vaxtracker Works

Anyone who receives a vaccination at a Vaxtracker-registered clinic can self-enrol through a QR code poster unique to their clinic. Anyone who receives a COVID-19 vaccination at a New South Wales (NSW) Health staff clinic or through the NSW School Vaccination Program will be automatically enrolled, but participation is entirely voluntary.

Depending on the vaccine received, 1-3 surveys will be sent via email, SMS or both. The surveys will ask about potential reactions to the vaccine, and any medical attention received.

For Patients

Have you received an AusVaxSafety vaccine safety survey through Vaxtracker? Your vaccination exeperince and contribution to vaccine safety data is important.

Vaxtracker works in partnership with AusVaxSafety, Australia's world-leading national vaccine surveillance system, led by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) and funded by the Australian Government Department of Health.

For Providers

Vaxtracker collects vaccine safety data through NSW Health staff clinics, NSW and Northern Territory (NT) School Vaccination Programs, the Queensland Children's Hospital, the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service and community health centres in the NT and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

School Program

Vaxtracker has been collecting vaccine safety data for vaccines given as part of the NSW Health School Vaccination Program since 2017.

Students in year 7 are offered the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Diptheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (dTpa) vaccines. Students in year 10 are offered the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine. If you provide consent for your child to receive these vaccines you may receive vaccine safety surveys on their behalf.

From 2024, Vaxtracker will also be collecting safety data for vaccines given as part of the NT School Vaccination Program. Students in year 7 are offered the HPV and dTpa vaccines. All students in year 9 are offered the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine, and Aboriginal students are also offered pneumococcal and influenza vaccines. Parents can take part in the safety surveys by scanning the QR code on the post-vaccination information sheet.
